Ange Postecoglou had looked set to revive his managerial career in the English Premier League following his appointment by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in September.

The 60-year-old previously managed Tottenham Hotspur and even though he led the club to victory in the Europa League, he was dismissed after failing to turn in good results in the league, with Spurs ending the 2024/25 campaign in 17th position.

The Australian had come on board to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who had led the club to a return to Europe after a long absence, but had fallen out publicly with the club owner.

Postecoglou, who once bragged about winning trophies in his second season, could not even make it to a second month at the Tricky Trees.

He was sacked just 18 minutes after the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in Saturday’s early kickoff match, after only 39 days in charge of the club.

It was a new record for the shortest permanent managerial reign in English Premier League history, breaking the 40-day record set by Les Reed at Charlton Athletic in 2006.

Ange Postecoglou also became the first Nottingham Forest manager in history to fail to win any of their first eight matches in charge.

The former Celtic boss ended his 39-day spell at the club with six defeats and two draws in all competitions.
