Former Liverpool and Chelsea coach Rafa Benitez is close to taking over the coaching position at Greek Super Lig club Panathinaikos, SportPremi reports.
Benitez, has been without a job since parting ways with La Liga club Celta Vigo in March, following a run of poor results.

However, fresh reports from Transfer News Live indicate that Greek side Panathinaikos could be his next destination.
The club let go of Rui Vitoria in September, but they have not employed a permanent manager since then, with Christos Kontis working as an interim.
The club has been linked with multiple coaches in recent weeks, but it looks like Benitez is their man. The deal could be completed soon, as Panathinaikos are desperate to get a new coach in, following their 3-1 loss to Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday.
Why Rafa Benitez Moving To Panathinaikos Is Unexpected
Rafa Benitez is one of the most successful coaches in European football. He has won titles in England, Spain, and Italy. He also has the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.

For most of his career, Benitez has worked in the top five leagues, except for one spell in the China.
So, moving to Greece, which is a lower league, is a surprise at this point. Moreover, in this century, Panathinaikos are not one of the top clubs in the country. The club has only won the league once in the last two decades.
Nonetheless, he will be looking to help the club achieve success if the deal works out.
