ICYMI: Top 5 African Players with the most EPL appearancesÂ
Arsenal and Manchester United continued their impressive forms, with both teams grinding out results against usually-tricky sides.
During an action-packed weekend, several records were broken and new ones set. In this article, SportPremi highlights some major records and stats from the past weekend’s actions;
Alex Iwobi makes 300th EPL appearance
Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi rewrote history books for a second consecutive week, after making his 300th appearance in the English Premier League when he featured for Fulham against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Iwobi also moved to fifth on the all-time list for an African footballer in the league, with only Kolo Toure (353), Mohamed Salah (310), Jordan Ayew (305) and Wilfried Zaha (305), ahead of him.
He could not mark the milestone with a victory, as Fulham went down 2-1 in the encounter.
Garnacho opens account for Chelsea
After going six games without a goal contribution since his summer move to Chelsea from Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho finally opened his account for the club in their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.
The Argentine forward opened the scoring inside four minutes after finishing off a slick move, but the Blues conceded twice as they were stunned in front of their home fans by the newly-promoted side.
With his goal, Garnacho became the fifth Argentine to score in the EPL for Chelsea, following in the footsteps of Sebastian Veron, Hernan Crespo, Gonzalo Higuain and Enzo Fernandez.
Liverpool continue losing streak
Premier League champions Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat to Brentford on Saturday – their fourth consecutive defeat in the EPL this season.
The Reds became the fourth reigning champions to lose four straight games after Leicester City in 2016-17, Liverpool in 2020-21 and Manchester City in the past season.
Tottenham defeat Everton
Tottenham Hotspur produced a dominant performance as they dispatched Everton 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.
Micky Van de Ven (2) and Pape Matar Sarr were on target as Thomas Frank’s side moved up to third on the EPL standings.
They also became the first team to defeat Everton at their new home ground in the league this season.
Pedro Porro
Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro provided the assist for Micky Van de Ven to score his side’s second goal in the 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday.
The Spaniard’s assist brought his total goal contributions to 25, equaling Trent Alexander-Arnold for the most by a defender since his debut in February 2023.
