Sanchez, 36, returned to the Spanish La Liga after 11 years when he joined Los Rojiblancos on summer transfer deadline day on a one-year deal.

The Chilean forward spent three years at Barcelona before departing in 2014 and has enjoyed a remarkable career playing for top clubs across Europe.

The winger also went on to play for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Olympique Marseille and Udinese, before completing a return to Spain in September.

The Sevilla number’10’ provided an assist on his debut for the club – a 2-2 draw against Elche, and scored his first goal in a 2-1 win over Alaves on his second appearance.

Sanchez also scored in the shock 4-1 win over Barcelona, opening the scoring in that encounter against his former side from the penalty spot.

He missed two of their last three matches with a muscle injury, but will be expected to play a major role when Sevilla welcome Real Betis to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.

What Akor Adams said

Nigerian striker Akor Adams will be eyeing another starting role when the club face Real Betis in a crucial La Liga match on Sunday afternoon.

The forward who been preferred in the last two matches for the club, spoke about the impact of Alexis Sanchez on the entire squad.

When asked in an interview about how he has learnt from the experienced Chilean forward, the 25-year-old said;

“I think for us, it’s a pleasure to have a player of his calibre and to spend everyday with him in the same locker room, more than 6-7 hours everyday. We sit side by side, we get to speak a lot and we share experiences, he has more than I do.

He has seen the game, all of it, I’ve learnt a lot. On the pitch we speak, in the dressing room we speak”, he continued.

“He’s a veteran in the game, and for me, it’s positive that we have him around and for other players as well.”

Sevilla eye victory in derby

Sevilla host Real Betis in the first installment of the Great Derby for the 2025-26 season, hoping to bounce back from last Monday’s 2-1 loss to Espanyol.

Los Rojiblancos are 10th on the standings with 16 points, five behind fifth-placed Betis.

However, they will need to improve massively than in recent weeks, if they are to record a second win in six meetings in this fixture.
