Nigeria vs Tanzania Match Preview

Nigeria head into their 21st appearance at the AFCON tournament, hoping to secure a first title win since 2013. They got to the final of the last edition in Ivory Coast, before losing to the host nation in the final match.

The Super Eagles also suffered heartbreak in the last month after they failed in their bid to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following their penalty shootout defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the CAF playoff finals.

The three-time champions are overwhelming favorites to claim maximum points in their opening encounter and possess more than enough quality in their ranks to begin their campaign with a good result.

Tanzania, meanwhile, are heading into their fourth appearance at the African Cup of Nations and a second consecutive edition after also participating at the previous edition in 2023.

The Taifa Stars have never progressed beyond the group stages and will be hoping to break the duck for the first time in Morocco, although they face stiff competition from Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda in group C.

Form

Nigeria were defeated in their last match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the CAF playoff final, but were unbeaten in eight matches before that.

The Super Eagles also scored in every game during this period, although they were only able to keep three clean sheets.

Tanzania are winless in their last three matches and will need a solid performance to grab a favorable outcome when they face Nigeria.
