D’Tigress, Nigeria women’s senior basketball side bounced back to winning ways at the 2026 FIBA World Cup qualifiers with a 101-84 win over Philippines on Saturday.

Nigeria had began their campaign with a 70-37 victory over Colombia in their opening encounter, but their momentum was halted when they were defeated 77-60 by South Korea in their second match.
However, they have now recorded their second win in three games after the triumph over Philippines, as they continue their preparations for the World Cup in fine form.
D’Tigress ease to 101-84 win over Philippines
Nigeria had won one and lost one of their opening two matches, while Philippines had lost both of their matches, suffering a 115-66 defeat to France in their opening game and another 113-80 loss to Germany in their second match.
Nigeria made one change to the squad that lost to South Korea in their second match, with Victoria Macaulay coming in for Amy Okonkwo.
However, it was Philippines who took the lead in the first quarter, breezing to a 26-21 win as they looked on course to record their first win of the tournament.
D’Tigress lost the second quarter once again 25-21, as Philippines took a 51-42 lead into the halftime break.
Nigeria then bounced back in the third quarter as they ran out 34-21 winners and went ahead in the tie for the first time heading into the final quarter.
D’Tigress once again breezed away in the final quarter 25-21, as they ended up 101-84 winners on the day to secure their second win of the tournament.

Nigeria face France in their next match on Sunday, before concluding their tournament against World Cup hosts Germany on Tuesday.
