The Rojiblancos suffered another defeat on Sunday, as their winless run in La Liga extended to five games and just one win in their last nine matches.

It also marked their 15th league defeat of the season, as they dropped to 17th on the standings, just two points above Elche in 18th-place with only eight games left to salvage their season.

Sevilla had dismissed Matias Almeyda after a run of disappointing results and appointed Luis Garcia Plaza last month, but despite a new face in the dugout, results remained the same as they fell to another defeat.

Federico Vinas scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute, while Sevilla were reduced to 10 in the 38th minute when Tanguy Nianzou was given his marching orders.

Sevilla now have eight games to salvage their disappointing campaign and avoid suffering relegation to the lower division.

Adams reacts to Sevilla’s latest defeat

Speaking after the defeat, Adams who played the full 90 minutes in the clash, expressed frustration at the result and urged his side to improve on their performances in their upcoming games.

“The result was a shame. It wasn’t what we had prepared with the new manager, and we have to reset and forget this result as soon as possible”, Adams stated.

“There are no excuses for defeat, we arrived with confidence and preparation.

“We didn’t lose because of the referees, but we had several incidents went against us. For example, Djibril Sow nearly broke his leg,” Adams concluded.

Sevilla will now turn their attention to their next La Liga match, as they prepare to face Atletico Madrid next Saturday, hoping for a win to boost their survival chances.
