The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have made a formal approach to Newcastle United forward William Osula over a possible switch of international allegiance.

Osula, 22, was born in Denmark to a Nigerian-French father and is also eligible to play for England, where he grew up. However, he has been playing for Denmark at youth level and despite earning two senior call-ups, he is yet to make his senior debut.
The Newcastle United forward was first called up in November 2025, but an injury forced him to pull out of the squad, before he was handed another call-up in March’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
He was left on the bench for both of their games, as they failed to reach the tournament after losing to Czech Republic on penalties.

Meanwhile, the NFF are already preparing ahead for the next edition of the World Cup and have also acquired Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who switched allegiances from England.
The Super Eagles have now missed back-to-back World Cup tournament and they will be eager to avoid a repeat of that situation for the next edition.
Osula: Next Super Eagles star?
William Osula has been a regular member of the Newcastle United squad under Eddie Howe this season and is even ahead in the pecking order ahead of two big-money signings last summer – Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
The 22-year-old has scored in his last two outings and also hit a stunning goal in their 2-1 win over Manchester United in March.
According to reports, the NFF have already made their approach and are hoping to convince him to join the Nigerian national team as they continue their search of talents from Europe.
However, Nigeria have a lot of talent upfront at the moment which might play a big role in influencing Osula’s decision. The good thing, though, is that most of these attackers would be well over 30 by the time the next World Cup rolls in, giving Osula a chance to spearhead the Super Eagles attack if they manage to qualify for the tournament.
Still, the decision is his to make, but his addition would be a real statement of intent from the NFF.
