Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has called out CAF over their decision to postpone the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations tournament.

Recall that CAF postponed the tournament just few days before its commencement back in March, with the competition now set to hold between July 25 and August 16.
The Super Falcons are the defending champions after defeating Morocco in the final of the last edition, coming back from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2.

Nigeria, who now have a record 10 titles, will compete in group C when the tournament eventually kicks off against Zambia, Egypt and Malawi, as they hope to defend their title successfully once again.
Chiamaka Nnadozie hits out at CAF over WAFCON 2026
Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has been named the CAF Women’s goalkeeper of the year for three consecutive years, has expressed her displeasure over the organizers decision to move the competition at a very short notice.
“We, the players, are not happy about it”, the Super Falcons goalkeeper said.
“We don’t know the reason behind it, we were all prepared. We left our clubs, hoping to go to the Wafcon. I know the fans are angry, the people are angry. It’s frustrating for me too because some of my family members already got their tickets, some had already applied for a visa.”
The 25-year-old also reflected on the last edition of the tournament, where she was a key part of the squad that won a record 10th title.
“If I’m not carrying that boombox, the players will beat me up. It’s always on me to make sure I bring the music”, Nnadozie added.
“It keeps us moving, it gives us the morale. I love to be happy. When I’m happy, you get the best of me. That boombox is like my happiness, you know?
“We lost the boombox in Morocco. We forgot it inside the bus when we were going to the airport. We have a new one now.
“Women’s football [in Africa] is growing, but there’s this thing they always used to say: the universe isn’t on a budget. We can always ask for more”, the Brighton goalkeeper concluded.
Nnadozie’s focus for now will be on ending the season strongly with Brighton in the Women’s Super League, before joining up with the Nigerian squad in the summer as they hope to successfully defend their African title in Morocco.
