With that appearance, Lookman became the sixth Nigerian player to feature in a UCL semifinal, since the inception of the competition.

The 28-year-old follows in the footsteps of Finidi George and Nwankwo Kanu, who both featured for Ajax Amsterdam in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, as well as John Mikel Obi, who also featured for Chelsea.

Kelechi Iheanacho with Manchester City and Samuel Chukwueze with Villarreal complete this star-studded list, with Lookman now becoming the latest addition.

Lookman eyes impact against Arsenal

Ademola Lookman was a major injury doubt ahead of Atletico Madrid’s clash against Arsenal on Wednesday night, but was thrust in from the start by head coach Diego Simeone after recovering from injury.

The 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided four assists since moving to the club during the winter transfer window and will be hoping to guide Atletico to victory in their first Champions League semifinal in nine years.

The winner of the clash will advance to the final on May 30 in Budapest where they will face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain.
