David Alaba scored the opening goal in Finland in the first half, during which semi-automatic offside technology was tested for the first time in history. Twenty minutes after the game, Benzema took the tension off the team by scoring past Kevin Trapp.
Real Madrid won the European Super Cup for the fifth time in history on Wednesday evening. The team of coach Carlo Ancelotti was 2-0 up against strong Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt in Helsinki.
Benzema’s goal at the night took him to 324 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid, placing him ahead of Spanish forward Raul and only behind Ronaldo who has 450 goals.
Madrid are also level with record holders Barcelona and AC Milan in securing the fifth European Super Cup.
Real Madrid won the Champions League last season by beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final. Frankfurt surprised with the overall victory in the Europa League, the second most important European club tournament.

Despite the underdog tag, Frankfurt could have taken the lead against Real Madrid after fifteen minutes, when Kamada was able to take out of a promising position after a nice pass from Rafael Borré. But Thibaut Courtois prevented an early goal.
Finally, In the 37th minute, Real Madrid scored just after the threatening Vinicius saw a shot stopped from the corner by Frankfurt goalie Trapp. Alaba scored from close range after a good header from Casemiro. The Brazilian was the only one on the alert after a loosed header from Benzema.
The German team were resolute in the second half. Trapp was surprised by a shot from Karim Benzema and mistakenly let the ball pass under him. The goal sealed the victory to make Madrid champions for the fifth time.
