Goals from Esther Okoronkwo and Asisat Oshoala steered the Super Falcons to another win. It is their second consecutive win after the 1-0 victory over Costa Rica some months ago.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria showed dominance to secure a a 2-1 win over Haiti in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Emirhan Sport Center Stadium on Friday.
Nigeria dominated in the early stage of the game against the Haitians but struggled to make their impact felt on the scoreboard, as they missed many scoring chances.
During the 21st minute of the game, a nice free-kick was sent towards Haiti’s danger area which led to confusion inside the penalty box. However, none of the Super Falcons players were able to score a goal before Haiti cleared the ball away to safety.
Minutes later in the game, Africa star Oshoala got into another promising position and fired a shot wide off target after a good cross from Alozie.
The Nigerian team had a strong momentum during the game, Esther Okoronkwo was the one who managed to break the tie with an excellent free kick taken from the edge of the area.
Nigeria increased their lead early in the game with their first attack. During a corner-kick, Jennifer Echegini made an impressive high header that unfortunately hit the crossbar, but Asisat Oshoala was there to score a goal from the rebound. It was especially pleasant to witness this moment as it marked Oshoala’s return to the Nigerian team after her last appearance during the opening match of the Women Africa Cup of Nations in July.
Shortly after the coach, Randy Waldrum, substituted the experienced defender Onome Ebi, the Nigerian team conceded a goal as a result of a defensive error.
As a consequence, Haiti gained momentum and launched a series of attacks towards the Nigerian goal. Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Nigerian goalkeeper, made a remarkable double save to prevent the Haitian team from scoring a goal and tying the game, just 12 minutes before the end of the match.
Ultimately, the Super Falcons of Nigeria emerged victorious in the game, marking their second consecutive win after their previous triumph over Costa Rica in February.
