The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is the professional league of women’s basketball in the United States of America. The 2025 season has reached the semifinal stages and a new team will make history as the league champions, following the elimination of defending champions New York Liberty in the first knockout rounds.

7. Las Vegas Aces (Two titles)

Previously referred to as the San Antonio Stars, the Las Vegas Aces have won the WNBA championships twice in their history. They reached the finals in 2008 and 2020, but lost out on both occasions. They eventually won a first title in 2022 and won a second consecutive championship in 2023.
The team led by four-time MVP A’ja Wilson, could add another title to their cabinet this year, but have to navigate a semifinal clash against Indiana Fever to reach the finals.
6. Dallas Wings (Three titles)

The Dallas Wings are one of the three teams to have won the WNBA Championships on three occasions. Formerly known as the Detroit Shock, they won a first title in 2003, before further wins in 2006 and 2008.
5. Phoenix Mercury (Three titles)

Phoenix Mercury’s run to the semifinals this year means they have the chance to add to their three WNBA championships. They won a first title in 2007, with the two other wins coming in 2009 and 2014.
4. Los Angeles Sparks (Three titles)

The Los Angeles Sparks have reached the WNBA playoffs more than any other side in the league, but have only won the championships three times. The Sparks won two successive titles in 2001 and 2002, but have not won a championship since 2016.
3. Seattle Storm (Four titles)

The Seattle-based team are tied with two other teams for the most championships in WNBA history (4). They won a first title in 2004, with other wins in 2010, 2018 and 2020. They are also one of the two teams in history to have never lost a playoff finals.
2. Houston Comets (Four titles)

Houston Comets were the inaugural champions of the WNBA in 1997 and dominated the championships in the early years. They are one of two teams to have never lost a playoff finals in the league’s history and are the only side to have won four consecutive championships.
The team was disbanded in 2008, but remains one of the greatest WNBA teams in history.
1. Minnesota Lynx (Four titles)

The Minnesota Lynx could move ahead of the Seattle Storm and Houston Comets by winning the WNBA championship this year. They won a first title in 2011 and won three more in 2013, 2015 and 2017. They have reached the most finals in the league history (7), losing in the 2012, 2016 and 2024 finals.
