The 28-year-old had previously agreed personal terms with Turkish side Fenerbahce and was set to move to the club this month, before the move broke down after both clubs failed to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
This allowed Atletico Madrid to swoop in and seal a €40 million transfer, with a fixed €35 million and an additional €5 million in add-ons.
Lookman will now travel to Spain for medical examinations after which he will sign a contract until 2030 and will earn around €6 million per season.
Lookman agrees to join Atletico
Nigerian forward Lookman has finally gotten an exit from Atalanta after multiple attempts and will now move to Spain to begin a new path in his career.
The former African footballer of the year winner was involved in a saga with La Dea over his transfer last summer after he handed in a transfer request.
He refused to participate in training and was initially frozen out of the squad for the first few weeks of the season, before he was reinstated midway into the first half of the campaign.
Lookman has shone brightly during his spell at Atalanta and scored a remarkable treble during their 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2024 Europa League final, earning the club their first ever European trophy.
Inter Milan were the interested parties last summer, while Fenerbahce also failed to agree a move this month despite reaching personal agreement with the player.
The 28-year-old now moves to Spain where he will be expected to help the Madrid side as they continue their quest in the league and also in the Champions League.
