Wolves forward Tolu Arokodare admitted his disappointment as his team were edged out 2-1 by Arsenal in Saturday night’s encounter in the English Premier League, SportPremi reports.

The West Midlands Club had suffered a 4-1 home defeat to Manchester United in the league on Monday night, but were up against another tough opposition in the league leaders.

Despite a much-improved performance in the encounter at the Emirates Stadium, a goal in stoppage time condemned them to yet another defeat as they remained winless so far.

Arokodare scores, but Wolves lose again

Arsenal headed into the clash on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the league last weekend, while Wolves were well beaten in front of their home fans by Manchester United.

The game started off at a slow pace, but Wolves had the first real chance of the clash when David Raya saved an effort from Hwang Hee-Chan after a nice solo run.

The first half ended with the home side dominating most of the possession, but without a shot on target.

Sam Johnstone then tipped over a dipping free kick from Declan Rice, before the goalkeeper was on hand to deny another shot by the Englishman once more.

However, the deadlock was broken albeit in fortuitous circumstance as a curling corner kick from Bukayo Saka hit the inside of the post and struck the back of Johnstone before heading into the net.

Wolves thought they had secured a point when substitute Tolu Arokodare flicked in a cross from Matheus Mane on the 90th minute.

The 24-year-old was left out of Nigeria’s final squad for the 2025 African Cup of Nations and showed head coach Eric Chelle a glimpse of what he might be missing.

In dramatic fashion, the Gunners stole the win at the death as Yerson Mosquera flicked a cross from the impressive Saka for a 2-1 win.

Arsenal extended their lead at the top to five points, while Wolves remain without a league win this season and are in early danger of relegating at the end of the season.

Arokodare Laments Wolves Defeat

Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare joined Wolves in the summer after impressing at Genk, but scored his first English Premier League goal with his side’s equalizer in the clash.

His two previous goals had come in the EFL Cup, netting against Everton and Chelsea in the third round and fourth round respectively.

Speaking after the match, the 24-year-old was disappointed with the result, but assured supporters of an improvement in the coming matches.

“It is not the first time we conceded in the last minute. It’s something that we have to work on – staying focused to the last whistle – very unlucky for us. Good goal from them, and I would say it was a little bit of poor defending from us”, the former Genk striker admitted.

“It’s something we’ve been working on. We did have a few chances in the second half and we have that quality, but we haven’t been lucky in attacking or defending. Hopefully in the coming games we will score more goals and everything will change.”

Wolves and Arokodare will be back in action when they welcome Brentford to the Molineux next Saturday.
