Awoniyi scores, Aina solid as Nottingham Forest edge Tottenham

Nottingham Forest went into the clash after their remarkable win over Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League in midweek and were looking to get one over their fellow strugglers.

Ola Aina started the clash, while Awoniyi was left on the bench as the Tricky Trees visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, hoping for a win to boost their survival chances.

The hosts dominated possession, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when it seemed like both sides would be level heading into the break.

After Guglielmo Vicario tipped over a shot, Forest scored from the resulting corner kick as Jesus headed home from a Williams’ delivery.

Spurs were almost level immediately, but Sels produced a stunning save to push a shot from Tels onto the crossbar, with Forest taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

Gibbs-White doubled the advantage just after the hour mark, before Awoniyi scored their third of the game and just his second league goal of the season, to seal the win.

Nottingham Forest moved up to 16th on the standings with 32 points, three ahead of 18th-placed West Ham United in a big boost for their survival.
