Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has shared his ambition to play in the FIFA World Cup for Nigeria.
The Lazio midfielder is part of head coach Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
The Super Eagles host the Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, before facing a trip to South Africa next Tuesday for their eighth group game.
They need to secure positive results in both matches to avoid missing out on a second successive World Cup tournament, after also failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, Dele-Bashiru, who scored his first international goal in the 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana in June 2024, believes it will be a fulfilled dream to represent his country in the tournament.

“The World Cup, that’s the biggest stage for a footballer in your career, especially playing for your country.
“It will be a very massive moment for not just me, I’m sure, all the players here. It will be a massive moment for all the staff and all the fans”, the Lazio midfielder revealed.
“So, yeah, that’s what we are working towards. God willing, we will win the next two World Cup qualifying games and then after that, we’ll take it from there.”
Crucial Qualifiers for Nigeria
The Super Eagles must win all their four remaining group matches, starting with Saturday’s match against Rwanda.
South Africa currently top Group C with 13 points, six more than Nigeria who are in fourth place.
Nigeria will hope other results turn out in their favor as they seek to return to the World’s biggest stage after missing out in 2022.
