Nigerian forward Salim Fago Lawal has shared his excitement about taking the next major step in his career after sealing a move to Viktoria Plzen from NK Istra, SportPremi reports.

The 23-year-old completed the move to the Czech club on a three-and-a-half year deal earlier today, following an impressive spell at the Croatian side.
The Super Eagles forward was close to a move to join Azerbaijan champions Qarabag, until Viktoria Plzen entered the race for his signature and completed the transfer.
Lawal joined Istra in 2023 on an initial three-year deal, but signed a contract extension last summer that would have kept him at the club until 2028.
The 23-year-old has scored seven times in all competitions for the Croatian club this season and his versatility will be a major asset for Plzen, as he can play across every position in the attack.
He replaces compatriot Rafiu Durosinmi, who left the club to join Italian Serie A outfit Pisa earlier in the transfer window.
Lawal has enjoyed a remarkable rise in his career and was a surprise inclusion in Eric Chelle’s final squad to represent Nigeria at the recently concluded 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament.
He made his international debut during the pre-tournament friendly match against Egypt and played in the Super Eagles final group game against Uganda in Morocco, a match they won 3-1.
Lawal delighted to complete Viktoria Plzen move
In a statement released by the Czech club on social media, they confirmed the arrival of the forward at the club from NK Istra.
“FC Viktoria Plzeň announces the arrival of a new offensive reinforcement. Twenty-three-year-old striker Salim Fago Lawal, who most recently played for NK Istra, is joining the West Bohemian club.”
Meanwhile, Lawal expressed excitement over the move and is ready to help the club achieve success.
“I know Viktoria mainly from their European performances, where they have consistently delivered great results. This offer really attracted me. I see it as a step forward in my career, and I want to help the club as much as possible”, the Nigerian forward said.
“Since I was with the national team at the Africa Cup, I think I am well-prepared and will want to be fully available to the coaches immediately. I am looking forward to my first training session and meeting my new teammates.”
Viktoria Plzen sporting director Martin Vozabal was also pleased with the arrival of the Super Eagles star at the club.
“After the departure of Rafiu Durosinmi, we wanted to increase competition in our attack, which is fulfilled with the arrival of Salim Fago Lawal”, Vozabal stated.
“He is a pacey player who can play both as a central striker and on the wing. We are glad the transfer has now been completed and can count on him for the weekend league match.”
Lawal could make his debut for Viktoria Plzen when they face Karvina in a league match on Sunday.
