Former Nigerian goalkeeper Idah Peterside has said that Stanley Nwabali must be quick to find a new club to ensure that he secures a return to the Super Eagles team.

Nwabali, 29, has not played competitive football for over two months since leaving Chippa United earlier this year and was dropped by Nigerian head coach Eric Chelle for the international friendly matches against Iran and Jordan last month.
The Super Eagles first-choice shot-stopper enjoyed an impressive outing at the 2025 African Cup of Nations, but is unlikely to play for the national team until playing time is assured at club level.
Meanwhile, the recent acquisition of Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo could have further pushed him down the pecking order ahead of the qualifiers for the 2027 African Cup of Nations tournament which will begin later this year.
Nwabali has been linked with a move to several clubs and with few months left until the summer transfer window, he will be hoping to complete a move in time to a new club to reignite his career.
What Idah Peterside said about Stanley Nwabali
Speaking in an interview, Idah Peterside questioned Stanley Nwabali’s decision to part ways with Chippa United earlier this year, while stressing that the goalkeeper needs to secure a new club before next season to remain relevant in the national team setup.
“No, I don’t think so. But sometimes, you don’t really know what goes on at club level—the struggles players face and the difficulties they encounter. His decision to leave was personal”, Idah said.
“He’s a big player and a very good goalkeeper. We just hope he gets a club before the new season begins.
I hear Kaizer Chiefs might sign him, which would be great for him. But he knows he has to play regularly—that’s the most important thing. He’s a professional, and I believe his agents will sort things out so he can get back to playing,” the former Nigerian goalkeeper concluded.
Nigeria will return to action in May for the 2026 Unity Cup, before facing Poland and Portugal in two high-profile friendlies in June.
