Turkish football giants Galatasaray are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Lionel Messi on a short-term loan from Inter Miami during the Major League Soccer (MLS) off-season break, according to Turkish outlet Fotomac and journalist Zeki Uzundurukan.

Galatasaray’s ambitious plan
The Istanbul-based club is said to be interested in bringing the 38-year-old World Cup winner to Turkey for a four-month spell during the MLS winter break, which coincides with the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reports indicate that Galatasaray is willing to match Messi’s current salary, believed to be around €10 million, for the duration of the loan.

According to Uzundurukan, Galatasaray officials have discussed the financial details and believe the deal could be achievable.
The Turkish side, who have recently secured high-profile signings like Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sané, see Messi as the ultimate statement signing to boost both domestic and European ambitions.
Club’s intent and growing speculation
Speaking to Transfer TV, Uzundurukan revealed that club executives reportedly said, “We will pay the money,” expressing their readiness to cover Messi’s salary.
Galatasaray’s scouting team has been monitoring Messi’s situation for several months and views this as an opportunity for the Argentine to maintain top-level fitness before returning to Inter Miami for the new MLS season.
Could the move happen?
While there has been no official confirmation from either Galatasaray or Inter Miami, the reports have generated massive excitement among fans and media outlets. Such a move would depend on negotiations between both clubs and the approval of MLS.
Although challenging, football history has witnessed similar short-term moves during league breaks, so the possibility cannot be completely ruled out.
What’s next
Messi is currently focused on Inter Miami’s upcoming playoff fixture against Nashville SC at Chase Stadium. Following the conclusion of the MLS season, he is expected to take a short break before preparing for the next campaign.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray unbeaten leaders in the Turkish Super Lig, continue to monitor developments closely as they prepare for Champions League knockout qualification matches against Atlético Madrid and Manchester City in January.
