Hakim Ziyech: Ex-Chelsea man set to join former Champions League winners

Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is set to complete a move to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, SportPremi reports.

Ziyech was part of the talented Ajax squad that reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League before getting knocked out by Tottenham in 2019.

He was one of the most exciting young wingers in the world at the time. So Chelsea paid Ajax €40 million for his services in 2020.

However, the Morocco international struggled at Stamford Bridge and failed to live up to the hype.

Due to his struggles, Ziyech was eventually let go. He first went to Turkish club Galatasaray in a season-long loan transfer, before joining the club permanently. At the turn year of the year, he then moved to Qatari club Al Duhail.

But he then parted ways with the club in July, and he has been a free agent since then, as no suitable offer has come from a top European side.

Fresh reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Hakim Ziyech is very close to joining Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca. He is set to join in a one-year deal, with the option of an extra year extension.

The club is one of the biggest and richest in Africa, with three CAF Champions Leagues titles to their name.

This is one of the biggest homecoming transfers on the African continent, and it has created a buzz around Moroccan football.

They will be hoping that the 32-year-old can help them this season, as they target their fourth African crown.
