The 23-year-old arrived at the club on summer transfer deadline day in a deal worth around €21 million from Belgium side Royal Antwerp, but made his first appearance in the match on Saturday.

It was a very impressive debut as the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet as Man United eased to a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Sunderland, their first clean sheet of the season.

Mason Mount opened scoring in the eighth minute, latching onto a cross from Bryan Mbeumo, before firing into the net.

One became two in the 31st minute, when a long throw from Diogo Dalot caused problems for the Black Cats’ backline, allowing Benjamin Sesko to score his second goal in as many matches.

Lammens was composed in the second half, denying every attack from Sunderland, while he was also impressive with his cross claims.

The Red Devils head into the international break in high spirits following their win, as they moved up to 10 points in the league this season.

Amorim hails ‘solid’ Lamens

Speaking after the match, Ruben Amorim was pleased with the team’s display as pressure eased after a poor run of results.

The Portuguese also singled out the new goalkeeper, who made his debut since joining in the summer.

“I think he looked confident in the first game. But the important thing is that the teammates helped Senne to have a good game. Because everyone was focused, not a lot of mistakes against a team that was really comfortable playing football”, Amorim said after the match.

“Asked why he delayed starting him, Amorim added: “He arrives and you can feel it that he needs to adapt. New country, new training, the pressure that you guys put on the goalkeepers are massive. So it was like a little preparation for the guy to be ready to start his first game.

“But now it’s just one game and he needs to work. Because he needs to be prepared that in our club things are really hard. But he did well in the game. He was comfortable during the game and that is a very good sign”, the Man United boss added.
