Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed satisfaction at his performance, after he netted the winning goal in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday.
The Nigerian international made his debut as a late substitute for the club, before netting from the spot in stoppage time to give his side a well-deserved victory.
Iheanacho joined Celtic in the summer transfer window on a free transfer, following the termination of his contract at former club Sevilla.
He previously joined the Spanish club in 2024 after leaving Leicester City when his contract expired, but failed to live up to the hype at the club before eventually departing one year later.
Much was expected going into his debut for the Scottish defending champions and the Nigerian well-renowned for his ‘big-game mentality’ struck once more to announce himself to the league.
The visitors went into the match in search of their fourth win of the season, following a fast start to the league campaign.
After a scoreless first half, Daizen Maeda opened the scoring with a brilliant finish in the 56th minute.
Brendan Rodgers side looked well on their way to victory until Kilmarnock equalized late in the game through David Watson.
The match looked likely to end in a draw until a late VAR intervention, after a handball in the hosts box by Lewis Mayo resulted in a penalty kick to Celtic.
Kelechi Iheanacho, who had come on in the 70th minute of the clash, stepped up and calmly slotted in with virtually the last kick of the game to seal the win for his side.
It was an impressive outing for the 28-year-old, who will be hoping to impress following a disappointing 2024/25 season.
Iheanacho delighted on brilliant Celtic debut

While speaking after the match, the Nigerian international was very excited and hopes to continue his goalscoring feats for the club.
“I’m feeling really, really good. It’s the last kick of the game, and I got to take it, so I’m really happy”, Iheanacho revealed.
“I’m happy for the opportunity, and I could see how the fans feel after that goal. It was a really important goal, so I’m happy.
“It’s a great feeling, but at the same time, there’s a lot of pressure as well with the spot-kick”, he continued.
“I just took it with composure, and we won the three points today, which is massive, and hopefully there are many more to come.”
