The Super Eagles and the Carthage Eagles clash in a top of group C battle later tonight, with both teams vying for qualification for the round of 16.

Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2-1 last Tuesday, while Tunisia also recorded a commanding 3-1 win over Uganda as both sides made winning start to the 2025 African Cup of Nations campaign.

It is a second meeting in three editions of the tournament between both African powerhouses, as they also faced off at the 2021 edition in Cameroon.

Nigeria had finished top of their group to set up a round of 16 clash with Tunisia, who qualified as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams.

However, the North African side produced a remarkable performance to send the West African giants out of the competition after a shock 1-0 win.

Tonight’s encounter promises to be much different, although the Super Eagles are favorites to clinch victory due to their superior quality.

Ladan Bosso eyes victory against Tunisia

While speaking ahead of the country’s crucial AFCON clash against Tunisia, former Nigerian head coach Ladan Bosso remained optimistic about the Super Eagles chances of victory.

“I don’t like predicting matches, but this game could go either way. Both teams are strong, and all we can do is wish the Super Eagles the very best and pray they come out victorious”, Bosso revealed.

Nigeria will also hope to avoid further disappointment at the tournament after recent setbacks in the national team.

The Super Eagles suffered an agonizing penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the CAF playoff finals, ending their hopes of reaching next year’s FIFA World Cup.

“The team must do well at the Nations Cup and aim to win it for Nigerians as compensation for missing out on the FIFA World Cup. They can use the disappointment of failing to qualify as motivation to fight for the title, and I urge Nigerians to continue supporting and praying for the team”, he continued.

Nigeria head into the clash against Tunisia hoping for a second win in as many matches at the tournament.

A win would seal qualification for the next round ahead of their final group clash against Uganda on the 30th.

It will also afford head coach Eric Chelle the luxury of resting several regulars and giving opportunities to new faces in the squad, before they head into the knockout stages.

Focus will be shifted to the Fez Stadium for what promises to be a fascinating clash, with kickoff slated for 9 PM.
