Werder Bremen forward Marco Grull has embraced the competition within the team, praising the impact of Victor Boniface on his debut for the club.
The Super Eagles forward was expected to join AC Milan in the Italian Serie A, but the move broke down following a failed medical at the club.
However, Boniface joined Die Werderaner on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen.
There was much optimism surrounding his arrival at the club, following his previous success at Leverkusen.
Boniface was named the rookie of the season in his debut Bundesliga campaign in the 2023/24 season, when he played a crucial role in the club’s unbeaten league triumph and their run to the 2024 Europa League final, losing out to Atalanta.
The 24-year-old made his debut for Werder Bremen in last Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach and he showed the fans a glimpse of what to expect from him.
He provided a defense-splitting pass few minutes after coming on for Justin Njinmah to score his side’s fourth of the match and showed great display of physicality and strength in his few minutes on the pitch.
Up next for Boniface and teammates is a clash against Freiburg on Saturday.
Marco Grull impressed with Boniface’s impact

Speaking in an interview ahead of Saturday’s clash against Freiburg, Marco Grull was impressed with the competition for spots in the Werder Bremen team, highlighted by Victor Boniface’s arrival at the club.
“Victor Boniface makes the team better. You can see how he uses his body and the qualities he brings to training”, the winger revealed.
“It’s important for us to have this competition, and that’s why we need someone like him here. We have this competition in other positions as well, and that’s important. I’m a hard worker, and that’s how I want to use my qualities”, he added.
