Nathan Tella: Kasper Hjulmand provides injury updates on Nigerian forward

Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella will play no part of the club’s UEFA Champions League clash against defending champions PSG due to injury, SportPremi reports.

According to manager Kasper Hjulmand, the Nigerian international remains sidelined with injury and will not be available for selection for the crucial tie.

The Super Eagles forward featured in the 2023/24 Bundesliga winners’ first three league matches of the season, but has been out of action since suffering a knee bruise in September.

The 26-year-old has missed four league matches, as well as their opening two Champions League clashes and is set to miss tonight’s tie against the defending champions.

Bayer Leverkusen are still searching for their first win of the Champions League league phase, having recorded two draws from their opening two games.

They recorded a point away at Denmark side Copenhagen in their first outing, before they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in their second match.

They face an uphill task in clinching a first European win of the season against Luis Enrique’s PSG at the Bay Arena in their third UCL match of the campaign.

Tella remains absent with injury

Nathan Tella has been one of the most consistent performers for Bayer Leverkusen in recent seasons and has missed only a fee games due to injury.

However, he remains out for a seventh consecutive match this season, as manager Kasper Hjulmand already confirmed his absence for tonight’s encounter.

“He’s actually worked on the pitch. It’s not a big issue. We observe Nathan day after day. We think it looks positive, but there have been setbacks”, the Bayer Leverkusen manager revealed.

“I’m not going to talk about it in specific details, but it has become longer and more complicated than we initially thought.

“He also worked with the ball, but it was not enough for a jump into the squad at the away game in Mainz, because Tella repeatedly felt pain”, he continued.

“He still couldn’t train with the squad on Monday. We will see him on the pitch next week.”
