Nigeria’s women’s under 20 team Falconets defeated Canada 3-1 in a group C fixture played in the early hours of Thursday, August 18, 2022.
The Falconets came from a goal down to secure a 3-1 win over the Canadians in their last Group C tie.
Canada got off to a perfect start as they took the lead as early as the 2nd minute, Kaila Novak’s took advantage of Falconets keeper Omini Oyono’s poor pass to her defender.
The Falconets came from behind in the second half through Onyenezide 24th and 32nd minute spot kick.
The first penalty came in the 24th minute after a Canadian player stopped a goal bound shot with her hand.
Onyenezide doubled the Falconets’ lead again from the penalty spot on 32nd minutes following a foul on Mercy Idoko.
And in the 91st minute of the encounter, substitute Chioma Olise, who was introduced to replace Mercy Idoko, put the game beyond the Canadian reach with a superb goal, increasing the score to 3-1.
The falconets of Nigeria remain unbeaten as they top their group with 9 points, after winning South Korea and France in their first two games.
