Rivers United head coach Finidi George has expressed satisfaction with his side’s performance after they sealed an impressive away win over Plateau United on Thursday, SportPremi reports.

In a rescheduled match-day 14 clash in the 2025-26 Nigerian Premier Football League, the Pride of Rivers claimed an important come from behind 2-1 win over the Peace Boys.
The clash was earlier rescheduled due to Rivers United’s continental commitments, after they became the first Nigerian club in seven years to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
However, they have had a poor start to their campaign, losing both of their opening two games so far and in danger of an early exit from the tournament.
They lost 3-0 to defending champions Pyramids FC in their opening clash, before suffering another 2-1 defeat at home to RS Berkane in their second clash.
Tale of the match
Rivers United headed into the clash on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the league, while Plateau United’s poor start to the season had left them in the relegation spots.
Nenrot Silas opened the scoring for the home side in the 20th minute of the clash, although the visitors could not produce an equalizer until the second half when David Sholumade pulled them level.
With the game heading towards a stalemate, Rivers United sprung a late counterattack, before Wisdom Ndon sliced a cross from Okon Aniekeme into his own net to make the scoreline 2-1.
The visitors snatched a victory at the death, extending their unbeaten run in the league to eight matches.
Rivers United remain the side with an unbeaten away record in the NPFL this season, as they moved into second place on the standings, level on point with first-placed Nasarawa United, although they have a game in hand.
What Finidi said after the win
Finidi George won the NPFL with Enyimba in 2021 and will be eyeing another shot at the title this time around with Rivers United, who have enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign.
Speaking after their impressive result against Plateau United, the 54-year-old was very pleased with his team’s overall showing.
“It’s an important win. In the first half we gave them too many throw in, few free kicks which brought them into the game. I felt in the first half we struggled a little bit”, the former Super Eagles head coach stated.
“Coming in the second half, we pushed a little more, pressed a bit higher, forced them to kick the long balls and look for the second ball which gave an edge. While we won the second balls we had the whole field to operate.
“We are quite happy, last Sunday we would have gotten another three points against Abia Warriors but it didn’t happen. They scored a last minute so out of two games, we have four points which is not a bad one. We are quite happy”, he concluded.
Rivers United will hope to continue their unbeaten run in the NPFL when they host Wikki Tourists on Sunday.
