The Super Eagles forward had matched Burak Yilmaz’s record of scoring in seven consecutive league matches for the club with his brace in the 3-1 win over Kayserispor in their last outing.

He has now become the first player in history to score in eight consecutive league games for Trabzonspor after scoring in the 51st minute of the clash.

Onuachu also extended his gap at the top of the Turkish golden boot chart after grabbing his 21st league goal of the campaign and now moves up to 23 for the season across all competitions.

Onuachu leads Trabzonspor past Rizespor

Trabzonspor had won six of their last seven games across all competitions and were hoping to move level on points with second-placed Fenerbahce with a win, after the Istanbul side had suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Fatih Karagumruk on Friday.

Both sides traded early chances to break the deadlock, but both goalkeepers were equal to the task, keeping the scoreline level.

Ernest Muci also went close for Trabzonspor with an effort, before Felipe Augusto was also denied as the first half ended goalless.

Five minutes after the restart, Trabzonspor broke the deadlock as history-maker Onuachu fired them ahead after great work by Muci in the buildup.

The Nigerian striker scored for the eight straight league game since returning from the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament, setting a new club-record in the process.

Onuachu now has another record in sights, as he hopes to become the Trabzonspor player with the most league goals in a season, with Alexander Sorloth in second on 24 goals, while former Georgian international Shota Arveladze holds the record with 25.

Trabzonspor sealed a 1-0 win and moved level on points with Fenerbahce, while they are now seven points behind league leaders Galatasaray, who thrashed Istanbul Basaksehir 3-0.
