Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu was not pleased with the decision to rule out his goal in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahce on Sunday.
The Nigerian international thought he had given his side an early lead in the 11th minute, when he connected with a header that went in off the crossbar.
The goal seemed legitimate at first, but VAR had other ideas.
The decision did not go down well with Onuachu and his teammates, who let off their anger after the match.
Trabzonspor went on to lose the match 1-0, as a first half stoppage time strike from Youssef En Nesyri was enough to seal maximum points for Fenerbahce.
Things got even tougher when Okay Yokuslu was given a red card for a rough tackle in the 20th minute.
Debutant goalkeeper Andre Onana kept Trabzonspor in the match with series of remarkable save, earning the player of the match award for his display.
It was a first defeat of the season for the Black Sea Storm, who had won three and drawn one of their opening four matches.
They drop to third on the log and are already five points off first-placed Galatasaray, who lead the standings.
Onuachu furious with officiating
The Nigerian striker who returned to the club this summer after leaving Southampton, was furious with the decision to cancel his goal.
Onuachu’s early form showed promise, but VAR changed the narrative.
“It’s a shame for the Turkish league! They have to do better”, he said.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan was also irate with the decision. Speaking after the match, he revealed his grievances to interviewers.

“At one point, we considered pulling the team off the field. No one has the right to do this to anyone. We have a disallowed goal. It doesn’t make sense, it’s illogical. I have other things on my mind, but I don’t want to say them”, the club president said.
“Those who make this decision, what do they base it on!”
