In the clash which took place at the Jan Breydel Stadium, the Nigerian midfielder turned in an impressive performance as the Belgian side came back from two goals down to seal a memorable result.

The 24-year-old was not the only Nigerian on target, as Ademola Lookman also found the back of the net for Atletico Madrid in the clash.

Onyedika’s Club Brugge geared up for the clash against Lookman’s Atletico Madrid, with a place in the Round of 16 on the line in the encounter.

However, it was the visitors who took the early advantage as Julian Alvarez fired home from the penalty spot after a handball by Joaquin Seys.

Onyedika then went close twice for Club Brugge, but was denied by two brilliant stops by Jan Oblak.

Lookman was on hand to then bundle home a second for Atletico Madrid, who took a two-goal lead into the break.

It took just six second half minutes for Club Brugge to spring up a response as Onyedika reacted quickest to a rebound to fire home and half the deficit for his side.

They were soon back on level terms as Nicolo Tresoldi equalized with a clinical finish in the 60th minute.

Atletico Madrid went back in front after Joel Ordonez scored an own goal under pressure from Alexander Sorloth, who had hit the woodwork with a header minutes before.

However, the hosts snatched a late draw from the clash as Onyedika provided the assist for Christos Tzolis, who fired past Oblak into the net.

The match ended 3-3 with nothing to cancel both sides after an entertaining 90 minutes of football.

What next?

Atletico Madrid will host the second leg clash of their UCL playoffs at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano next week, with the winner of the tie advancing to face either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16.
