The 60-year-old was appointed as successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed last month after a public fallout with club owner Evangelos Marinakis and sporting director Edu.

Postecoglou, had also been sacked from his role at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, despite leading the North London club to Europa League success, ending their 17-year trophy drought.

The Australian has had a rocky start to his managerial career at the Tricky Trees and is yet to win any of his six games in charge.

The 3-2 defeat to Midtjylland on Thursday in the Europa League meant his side has lost four of their matches since he took over, with only two ending in draws.

He also set an unwanted record in the process, becoming the first Nottingham Forest permanent manager in 100 years to remain winless in their first six games in charge.

Forest remain on one point from two matches in the Europa League and will need a massive upturn in results, to avoid early elimination.

The club fans had chanted “sacked in the morning”, addressing it to Postecoglou, expressing their impatience at the club’s poor run of form.

Speaking after the game, the manager however revealed that his side remains on the right track.

“The fans are disappointed, they’re entitled to have an opinion on it and I heard their opinion. Nothing surprises me anymore in football. I guess it’s just the climate we’re in and it seems that’s the way we’re going”, the Australian said.

“But look, that’s something I can control. My responsibility lies to make sure that we try and get some wins for this football club and progress it.

“I get the mood around the place isn’t going to be great, I understand people’s kind of attitude at the moment, particularly towards me, but I never worry about that. It’s not unfamiliar territory for me”, he continued.

“I really believe that we’re on the right track and when we get through this period of uncertainty we’ll be on a good path.

“I still think apart from their attitude towards me that they were behind the team and I think that’s the important thing. Of course, I would prefer people are optimistic.

“If we start winning games of football, the atmosphere will change.”
