The Nigerian first-choice shot-stopper left the South African club earlier this month by mutual consent, despite having about a year left on his contract.

Nwabali had been linked with a move to several clubs in the past, although Chippa United rebuffed every attempt for his signature.

The 29-year-old shone for Nigeria at the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, saving two penalties in the third-placed playoff game against Egypt as Nigeria won bronze medal at the tournament.

Nwabali offers update on next move

Nwabali is currently a free agent after terminating his contract at Chippa United and can now join any club of his choice.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper is yet to make a decision on his next move, but will be hoping for a quick resolution to keep him fit and in shape.

“I can play anywhere I want to play, there is no restriction”, Nwabali admitted.

I am open to any club, local or international. Football deals with happiness, and my happiness comes first.

“There are no calls yet. The only calls are from my family and friends and people who are shocked at the news. Nothing changed. In football, you wait for the right moment. You really need to enjoy where you are.”

Meanwhile, Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has denied any involvement in Nwabali’s exit from the club, revealing that the decision was made between the goalkeeper and the club’s hierarchy.

“It is a blow [losing Nwabali] for us, looking at how Stanley did in Morocco. He’s a super keeper, but obviously with his decisions I’m not involved in that,” Vilakazi said.

“So it was a discussion between him and the chairman, and they’ve agreed. I will only work with people who are in the system. If there is a need for us to look for a goalkeeper so that the competition can be high, we’ll do so.”

Where could Nwabali end up at?

Nwabali had been previously linked with a move Tanzanian outfit Simba and could not complete a move to the club following his departure from Chippa United.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old could also move to the Saudi Pro League or Qatar, where he has had suitors in the past.

Wherever Nwabali chooses as his next destination, he must be assured of regular game time as he hopes to stay fit to maintain his status as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper for years to come.
