Unlike in recent seasons, the Gunners have been the best team in the league so far this season and look like they are finally going to break their league drought.

The North London club top the standings and maintain a six-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City, while Aston Villa are seven points back in third.

Arsenal have finished second in three consecutive seasons and have also seen lead overturned at the top of the standings in recent campaigns.

Mikel Arteta’s men have also progressed to the final of the EFL Cup, while they were the only team to win all their eight matches during the Champions League group-phase stage, as they advanced automatically into the Round of 16.

Oliseh’s stance on Arsenal league chances

Sunday Oliseh, who won the Eredivisie with Ajax in 1998 and the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in 2022 has warned Arsenal against complacency if they are to stand a chance of lifting the English Premier League title.

“The only team that can stop Arsenal from winning the league this year is Arsenal, not any of the other teams”, Oliseh revealed.

“This is because the current Manchester City squad is one of the worst I’ve seen in years, and the surprising part is that they’re in second place.

“This league should have been over. If it weren’t the English Premier League, Arsenal would have carted away the title.

“Why Arsenal aren’t ten points ahead is because their self-belief isn’t totally there right now”, he added.

“They are so well-structured, they have the right players and are tactically on point, but what can stop them is themselves.

If it comes to a point where they need support from the bench, and they don’t get it, they might lose, that’ll be very important.

“In the latter stages of the Champions League, these things will come into play. It won’t deal with only the players anymore. The manager has to manoeuvre.

“Like Ancelotti in the past, Real Madrid didn’t play well, but they won.

“Arsenal are ready to win the title, but there’s still a 10% chance they don’t win, but it falls in their favour currently”, the former Super Eagles coach concluded.

Arsenal will be hoping to extend their gap at the top of the standings this weekend when they face Sunderland on Saturday.
