Super Falcons to find out WAFCON 2026 opponents on Thursday

The Super Falcons will discover their group stage opponents for the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament on Thursday, SportPremi reports.

The draw for the 16th edition of the women’s event will be held in Rabat, Morocco and the tournament will be the first in history to feature 16 countries.

Morocco will also host the competition for a third consecutive edition, becoming the first country to achieve this feat and also the third country to host the tournament three times after Nigeria and South Africa.

Nigeria are the defending champions after the won a record-extending 10th title in the 2024 edition with victory over the host nations in the final.

Only two of the 16 participating countries will make their debut at the 2026 edition, with Cape Verde and Malawi making their first-ever appearances.

The tournament will take place between the 17th of March and 3rd of April, 2026.

WAFCON 2026 draw takes center stage in Rabat

It is going to be a hectic few days in Morocco, with the draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations sandwiched between the semifinals and final of the 2025 AFCON.

The organizers have divided the 16 teams into four pots based on the FIFA Women’s World Rankings for December 2025.

  • Morocco (Host nation), Nigeria (defending champions), South Africa and Ghana make up Pot 1.
  • Zambia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Algeria are in Pot 2.
  • Senegal, Mali, Egypt and Burkina Faso are in Pot 3.
  • Cape Verde, Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi complete the quarter in Pot 4.
