Strand Larsen bags treble, Arokodare impact sub in Wolves big win
Wolves manager Rob Edwards named a strong lineup, but Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare was left on the bench.
It took only nine minutes to go ahead as Hwang Hee-Chan squared for Jorgen Strand Larsen to score. They grabbed a second two minutes later through Jhon Arias after a pass from Larsen.
Shrewsbury were given a way back into the match as the referee awarded a penalty for a foul by Arias on Marquis, although replays showed that the contact happened just outside the box.
With no VAR in action, the decision stood and Marquis made no mistake to pull a goal back for his side in the game.
Wolves wasted several chances to add to the scoreline, but the impressive Larsen scored their third of the game after an error by the Shrewsbury goalkeeper, as they went into the break 3-1 up.
Larsen completed his hat-trick in the second half after a nice touch and play with Arias, before Arokodare finally entered the fray.
The Nigerian missed a sitter few minutes later, but he was on hand to recycle a ball and pass to Gomes, who scored their fifth of the game.
The former Genk striker completed the rout with a goal of his own, to cap a dominant display as the marched on to the next round.
