Werder Bremen forward Victor Boniface acknowledged that his biggest hurdle with the Super Eagles is scoring, despite being satisfied with the rest of his contributions, SportPremi reports.

Boniface, 24, has struggled to replicate his club form with the Nigerian national team and is yet to score in a competitive game for his country, with his only goal coming in an international friendly match against Saudi Arabia in October 2023.

He had made his debut only a month before, coming on as a second half substitute for Taiwo Awoniyi in the 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe.
Everything Boniface said
Victor Boniface sealed a season-long loan move to Werder Bremen in the summer from Bayer Leverkusen in search of regular playing minutes as he looks to make Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in December.
While speaking in an interview, the 24-year-old opened up on his poor form with the national team.
“I would just say I’m unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals. I know there’s a couple of games which I did really good, but the scoring goals part is the most important thing presently in the world of football”, Boniface revealed.
“If people don’t even watch the game, they go on live score. When you score, you are Ronaldinho. You know, people don’t watch the game. So, I’m sorry for those people that think that way.”
Boniface also expressed that he feels honored to have represented his country and hopes for more impressive outings.
“My biggest dream before as a football player was to have this very moment of me representing my country, which I achieved by myself”, he continued.
“I pushed myself to that point, which I’m really grateful for it. It doesn’t work bad. It doesn’t work good. That doesn’t mean I’m a bad player or anything. I’m really happy I represented my country anyway,” the 24-year-old concluded.
Does Boniface have a way back to the Nigerian team?
Victor Boniface made his international debut for Nigeria in September 2023, as a second half substitute for Taiwo Awoniyi.
The 2024 African Cup of Nations would have been the perfect opportunity to announce himself to the continental stage, but an injury suffered early in January 2024, ruled him out of the tournament.
The 24-year-old is yet to make an appearance since June 2025, when he played for an hour in the 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly match.
With just over a month until the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Boniface could earn a recall back to the national team if he impresses at Werder Bremen, although he has had a tough start to life at the club.
