Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has spoken openly after the Super Eagles hard-fought 2–1 win over Lesotho in Polokwane, describing the team as “underdogs” ahead of their next World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic.
The Galatasaray striker set up Akor Adams’ winning goal in the encounter, which helped Nigeria secure an important result in their World Cup qualifying campaign, SportPremi reports.

Osimhen admitted that, despite the result, recent performances have not met the team’s standards and that fans have every reason to be concerned.
“On Tuesday against Benin we will be underdogs and Benin are the favorite to win. Because we have been playing a bad game for our standards, it just doesn’t come together,” Osimhen said.
He stressed that the players remain committed to improving and giving their best effort, even though expectations remain high.
“We cannot promise our fans much. But we will fight. This group keeps on giving; it doesn’t stop. We hope it will be our turn to be on top on Tuesday if we play our part as players,” he added.
Victor Osimhen gave an honest Assessment
The 26-year-old forward also voiced his frustration over the team’s recent displays, suggesting that he is not pleased with how the team have represented the country in recent matches.
“I don’t want to talk much about other things, but I am not happy with how we represent our country,” Victor Osimhen stated.

Nigeria have struggled for consistency since the start of the qualifiers, and Osimhen’s comments reflect the growing pressure on the squad to deliver as expectations mount.
Focus Shifts to Benin Republic
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, as they look to build on their victory over Lesotho. Tuesday’s match will be very crucial, not just for their standing in the World Cup qualifying group but also for rebuilding confidence among fans and players.
