Victor Osimhen shines as Galatasaray rout Eyupspor

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen produced another dazzling display for Galatasaray as they consolidated their position at the top of the Turkish league standings with a 5-1 rout of Eyupspor on Friday, SportPremi reports.

The 27-year-old did not get on the scoresheet, but he provided two assists in an outstanding performance and was only unlucky not to score after he was denied by the offside flag.

It marked the first time Osimhen has achieved the feat in a league game at senior level, as he showcased his importance to the team was beyond just goals.

Argentine forward Mauro Icardi scored a hat-trick, while Yunus Akgun and an own goal from Jerome Onguene completed the scoring for the Turkish champions.

Osimhen assists two goals in Galatasaray’s big win

Galatasaray headed into the clash on Friday night hoping for a win ahead of their UEFA Champions League playoff first leg clash against Juventus next week.

It took them only two minutes to go ahead as Osimhen delivered a sumptuous cross into the box for Akgun to finish home.

The Nigerian forward was then denied by a superb goal-line clearance, before Icardi added a second in the 33rd minute.

Bedirhan Ozyurt was then sent off for the visitors as their task became even harder on the night.

Osimhen got his second assist of the game, passing to Icardi who finished clinically in the 48th minute as Galatasaray moved three goals up.

The Argentine completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, before Eyupspor pulled one back through Metehan Altunbas.

Osimhen was denied by the offside flag after shooting into the net, but the home side got their fifth as Onguene put the ball into his own net.

Galatasaray sealed a 5-1 win and moved six points clear of second-placed Fenerbahce, who face Trabzonspor on Saturday.

What next for Galatasaray?

Galatasaray host Juventus in the first leg of the UCL playoffs round on Tuesday, with the return leg scheduled for February 25, as they eye progress to the Round of 16.
