Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has stated that Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana was not the reason they lost to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
The Red Devils sunk to a whole new low on Wednesday at Blundell Park, as they suffered a penalty shoot-out loss to fourth division Grimsby Town.
The game was expected to be an easy one for Ruben Amorim and his lads due to the gulf in quality between the two teams.
However, the Red Devils flattered to deceive. They conceded twice within the opening 30 minutes.
The two goals could have easily been saved by Onana, but the former Inter Milan star fumbled.

Manchester United had to stage a comeback in the last 15 minutes to force a penalty shoot-out.
Unfortunately for them, they were knocked out after a long penalty shoot-out that ended 12-11 in Grimsby’s favour.
Although Cameroonian goalie Onana saved one of the penalty kicks, he got a lot of stick from fans and analysts. However, coach Amorim believes that the loss was the fault of the entire team.
“With all due respect, when you lose to a 4th-division team, it’s not the goalkeeper. It’s everything. It’s the environment, it’s the way we face the competition,” Amorin said after the game.
“We know that we are in the moment everything people will pay attention to everything. It’s going to be massive every detail. We show the performance today, so my players spoke, for me, really loudly.”
Manchester United Have To Pick Up Soon
Manchester United’s loss to Grimsby Town was one of the most disappointing and embarrassing in recent years, and this comes after spending over €200 million in the transfer market.
Ruben Amorim was brought in to help them improve, but he has not done that yet- at least the Grimsby loss proves that.
Next up for Manchester United is a game against Burnley next weekend. Amorim and his boys need to bounce back with a sound win to prove their worth.
