West Ham United manager Graham Potter has revealed that he is under pressure to deliver results at the club, after their poor start to the season continued with another defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Eagles piled further pressure on the Hammers’ boss, securing a 2-1 win at the London Stadium, when both sides clashed on Saturday.
For Graham Potter, it is now three wins from his last 16 games as West Ham United manager, while his side are winless in their last eight home matches.
The former Chelsea manager has also won only six of his 25 matches in charge of the club.
This season, the Hammers have won only one of their four matches and have suffered heavy defeats to Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
The team was booed off by the home supporters once again, leading to doubts over Potter’s ability to continue as manager.
West Ham once again showed their vulnerability from set-piece, conceding their sixth goal from a corner kick this season when Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring for Crystal Palace in the first half.
Captain Jarrod Bowen equalized four minutes after the interval for the home side, before Tyrick Mitchell grabbed the winner for the Eagles, condemning West Ham to a third league defeat of the season.
Potter under pressure at West Ham
The former Chelsea manager has come under intense pressure in recent weeks and has done little to show the club’s hierarchy he can be in charge.
The defeat to Crystal Palace means the Hammers have only won once this season and face a tough challenge of turning things around.
Speaking after the match, Potter admitted that his job might be at risk due to the poor results shown by his team.
“Everyone at the club feels that pressure because the situation isn’t what we want. You have to face it up”, Potter admitted.
“We want to do better than we are and at the moment we’re not. So we have to find a solution. We have to work, we have to stick together, and we have to find those answers.
“I’ve no reason to think not but I also understand the environment. I have no complaints at all with the support that I’ve had, and the support from the supporters, from everybody at the club”, the West Ham manager continued.
