Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has praised Samuel Chukwueze’s display in the victory over Tottenham Hotspur and encouraged him to maintain that level of consistency, SportPremi reports.

Nigerian international Chukwueze capped his first start in the English Premier League with a player of the match performance for the Cottagers in a 2-1 win over Spurs on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old delivered the assist for Kenny Tete’s opener and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after he was denied by a last-ditch tackle by Micky Van de Ven.

The visitors claimed an important win to move up to 15th place on the standings after a difficult start to the season.

Chukwueze shines once again for Fulham

Ahead of the clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham manager Marco Silva had revealed that the winger could be in contention for a first start since his move to the club.

Chukwueze joined the Cottagers in the summer on an initial loan deal from AC Milan, but has been restricted to several substitute appearances.

However, he rewarded the manager’s faith in him by producing his third assist of the campaign for Tete’s deflected opener.

He also completed two dribbles and created two chances, while he made five recoveries in a very assured performance.

The Super Eagles star could have also gotten on the scoresheet, although he was denied by brilliant defending from Van de Ven.

What Iwobi said after Chukwueze performance

Alex Iwobi was also impressive on his 304th appearance in the English Premier League, moving him one shy off moving into the top three.

The Nigerian playmaker hailed his countryman’s performance after the clash and believes more of that will follow if he remains consistent.

“He is energetic on & off the pitch. We are happy to have him. You can see the magic he does on the field. He is a great addition to the club. We want to give him the confidence”, Alex Iwobi revealed.

“Chukwu-magic – that’s his nickname in the training field. He is able to do it in training and in matches. He just needs to stay consistent.”

On the win over Spurs

“We have a nice brotherhood in the team. Everyone motivates each other, and everyone fights for each other. The chemistry is good right now”, he continued.

“It’s a London derby, and hopefully this will kick-start us to go on ahead in the table. We knew it was going to be difficult facing Tottenham. It was good to have a strong start. We wanted to get our first away win & that was the motivation today.”

Chukwueze and Iwobi will be in contention to start once more for Fulham, when they welcome Manchester City in the EPL on Tuesday night.
