Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was very pleased with his side’s overall performance after they recorded a dominant 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, SportPremi reports.
The Gunners continued their perfect start to the 2025-26 UCL season with a sixth win from six games this season against the Belgian side who has Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika in their ranks.
Summer arrival from Chelsea Noni Madueke was the star of the show with two goals, including a stunning first half strike, while Gabriel Martinelli made history by adding a third for the North London side.
As it happened
Club Brugge headed into the clash, needing to produce a shock result against Arsenal, as they chased a spot in the knockout rounds.
The Gunners, meanwhile, were eyeing a sixth win amid their mounting injury worries and started with a much-changed lineup.
Piero Hincapie struck the post in the first big chance of the game, before Madueke produced a moment of magic to open the scoring.
The former Chelsea winger picked up the ball and went past two challenges, before firing in an unstoppable effort from 25 yards out.
Both sides then traded several chances to add to the scoreline, until Madueke added a second in the second half, heading into an empty post from a Martin Zubimendi cross.
Gabriel Martinelli completed the scoring with another superb strike, cutting in from the wings, before firing in a brilliant effort to make the scoreline 3-0.
With his strike, the Brazilian became the first Arsenal player to score in five consecutive matches in the UEFA Champions League.
The Gunners remain top of the standings with 18 points, while Club Brugge have just four points and are in danger of missing out on the knockout stages.
Arteta hails Arsenal’s display
Speaking during the post-match press conference, Arteta hailed his side’s victory despite their mounting injury worries.
“It’s a really positive evening and I think it’s very difficult to win away from home in the Champions League. We’ve done it with a lot of absences, especially in the backline and even this morning we lost two players”, Arteta said.
“I love the way the team reacted to that, collectively, individually, for example what Christian Norgaard has done just talks about how much better he makes all of us with his attitude, with his commitment in the manner that he prepares and is able to perform. So yeah, overall a really positive night”, the Spaniard added.
Club Brugge will now head to Kairat Almaty in their next UCL match in January 2026 hoping for a win to boost their chances of reaching the next round, before facing Olympique Marseille in their final match.
Arsenal, on the other hand, face Inter Milan in their next match and round up their league phase campaign against Kairat.
