FIFA is thinking of the possibility of extending matches from the traditional 90 minutes to 100 minutes ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in November.

According to the reports from Corriere Dello Sport, via Football Italia, FIFA governing body is looking to increase match play by 10 minutes, to combat loose balls during play.

The issue according to FIFA is the ball doesn’t stay in play for as long as expected, due to pauses in-game plays and substitutions.

FIFA will be hoping to increase the amount of time played by adding an extra 10 minutes, the proposal for the additional 10 minutes came directly from FIFA president Gianni Infantino

Before FIFA can execute its plans to add an extra 10 minutes to matches, they will have to be approved by IFAB who govern the laws of football
