Former Chelsea coach Graham Potter is close to taking over the reins at the Swedish national team, SportPremi reports.

Potter was sacked from his job at West Ham two weeks ago after a disastrous eight-month stay that saw him win a paltry 28% of the games he was involved in. He only managed 0.92 points per game at the club.

Now according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Potter is close to landing the Swedish national team coaching job.

Recall that in recent days, Potter has been linked with the job, following the sacking of Dahl Tomasson, who left them languishing at the bottom of their 2026 World Cup group that has Kosovo, Switzerland, and Slovenia. But they will now quickly appoint Potter, who is out of job.

The deal will likely be a short one, as he will be tasked with guiding them through the remainder of the World Cup Qualifiers which will continue in November and last until March 2026.

But it is highly unlikely that Sweden will make it to the World Cup, as with just two games left, they have just one point, six behind the playoff spot in Group B.

Can Graham Potter Revive His Career In Sweden?

The last two years have been really torrid for Graham Potter. Only a few years ago, he was considered as one of the best young coaches in the game due to his impressive work at Brighton.

That made Chelsea move to get him as a replacement for Frank Lampard at the time. But that ended up being a bad deal, as he was eventually sacked after nearly seven months in charge due to a run of poor results.

Then, at the start of the year, he joined West Ham. Still, that deal did not work out.

Sweden will be a short but fresh start for him since it is a national team job. He won’t have a lot of games to manage, but he will be looking to make a good impression there.
