Manchester United captain Harry Maguire produced another decisive moment as the Red Devils defeated Liverpool 2–1 at Anfield, their first win there since 2016.
His 84th-minute header sealed all three points and earned him the Man of the Match award in what manager Rúben Amorim called a ‘statement victory.’ SportPremi reports.

Speaking after the game, Maguire said, “I love this football club! This one goes for all fans — they will be happy today, it means everything for all of us. Our fans haven’t had the better of us over the last few years and it’s not been good for our club.”
Maguire’s Match-Winning Habit
It was another clutch goal for Maguire, who has developed a habit of scoring at crucial moments. The defender has now netted six goals for United since the start of last season, with all of them coming in the dying stages of matches.
His previous winners and equalisers came against Porto, Leicester, Ipswich, Lyon, and Grimsby. Once again, he stepped up when it mattered most.

Praise for Senne Lammens

After the match, Maguire praised goalkeeper Senne Lammens for his impressive performance, saying, “I must say I am heavily impressed by Senne Lammens. I don’t want to get carried away because he is playing in the position with the most pressure, but he’s got everything. Great personality.”
Credit to Rúben Amorim
He also credited manager Rúben Amorim for the team’s improvement under his leadership, noting, “We need to give credit to Rúben Amorim and his staff. When he came in, he said we need to change the culture at the club. And now we have to stick with him.”
Staying Grounded After Anfield Win
The defender urged calm despite the excitement around the win, stating, “We won’t get carried away because we can’t afford that as a club. We’ll use it as motivation. In this club, it means a lot this week — but we have to remain calm headed with Brighton next.”
Maguire’s leadership and late goals continue to define United’s resurgence under Amorim. With this result, Manchester United move just two points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, extending their unbeaten run and building confidence ahead of the clash with Brighton at Old Trafford.
