The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, SportPremi has learned.

The high-profile encounter is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at the Cairo International Stadium. Both teams will use the match as part of their final build-up for the continental showpiece, which begins a week later, on December 21.
Final Tune-Up Before AFCON 2025
According to multiple sources, the fixture was arranged at the request of Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan, who wants to test his side against one of Africa’s elite nations before the tournament.
Egypt will also participate in the UAE International Tournament, featuring Uzbekistan, Cape Verde, and Iran, as part of their pre-AFCON preparations.

On their part, Éric Chelle’s Super Eagles will open camp on December 10, four days before the Cairo meeting.
The Nigerian side are drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, while Egypt will compete in Group B with South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
A Familiar Rivalry Renewed

This friendly will reignite one of African football’s most enduring rivalries. The two nations last met during the 2021 AFCON (played in early 2022), where Nigeria earned a 1–0 victory thanks to a 30th-minute memorable strike from Kelechi Iheanacho.
The clash in Cairo offers both teams another opportunity to fine-tune tactics and assess their squads ahead of Morocco 2025.
Egypt are targeting a record-extending eighth AFCON crown, while Nigeria will be looking to lift their fourth.
