Osimhen has developed into one of the best footballers in the world and has enjoyed success in his career so far, winning multiple trophies and individual achievements

The 27-year-old, who began his senior career at Wolfsburg, helped Napoli to a historic Serie A title in the 2022-23 season as they ended their 33-year wait

He also helped Galatasaray to the league and cup double honours last season, while they are also on course to win the league title once again this season, as they currently hold a four point lead over Fenerbahce with only four games remaining.

On the international stage, Osimhen has scored 35 times for the Super Eagles and is only two shy off Rashidi Yekini’s all-time top scoring record.

Iwobi waxes lyrical about Osimhen’s mentality

Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen have shared the pitch for the Super Eagles since 2017, playing key roles in the team’s success, which includes two bronze medals and one silver at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In a recent interview, the Fulham midfielder spoke highly of his compatriot, praising his strong mentality and drive to keep pushing forward in his career.

“Cool, cool guy. Every time in training, he’s always getting hurt in training because he’s got to put his leg or his head into something that he shouldn’t do. He’s always been fighting,” Iwobi said.

“Every time in training, he’s always getting hurt in training because he’s got to put his leg or his head into something that he shouldn’t do. He’s always been fighting.

“I’m not surprised he is where he is right now. Some would say he’s not polished, he’s a bit raw, but Victor will create himself five chances a game, just himself, just from hard work and running.

“He doesn’t care who you are. He doesn’t care if you’re [Virgil] van Dijk, if you’re a guy from non-league – no disrespect to non-league – he will fight. He will treat the game in the Champions League as if he’s playing with his brethrens”, the Fulham midfielder added.

“He always wants to win, and that mentality is sick. It’s sick. Sometimes it can be over the top because in training, he would like to fight and make sure he’s winning.

“Then sometimes he cheats, and he knows he’s cheating just to win. But it’s just a sick mentality”, Iwobi concluded.

The Super Eagles will return to action in May for the defence of their Unity Cup, before facing Poland and Portugal in international friendly matches in June.
