Adams, 25, could miss few weeks of action for the Spanish club between December and January if he makes the Super Eagles squad for the AFCON tournament holding in Morocco in December.

The Nigerian forward made his debut for the senior team in October against Lesotho, and netted the winner in a 2-1 victory.

The 25-year-old also made the squad for the November’s World Cup qualifiers against Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He scored his second goal for the national team in a 4-1 win against the former, but could not help them prevent defeat against the latter as their World Cup hopes were ended in a penalty shootout defeat.

What Isaac Romero said about Akor Adams

Spanish forward Isaac Romero is Sevilla’s first-choice striker under manager Matias Almeyda and has three times and provided one assist in the league this season.

Adams, on the other hand, has come in mostly as a substitute and has scored twice in 10 league matches this season.

Speaking in an interview, Romero spoke about his relationship with the Super Eagles forward.

“He is a great person, we’re very close. We help each other and compete with each other and try to make the best goals possible to help the team and work to make it so”, the Spanish forward said.

“I always wish Akor the best [for the AFCON 2025 tournament]. It would be a shame if he’s away for so long because I would be left alone, but I will try to keep working and be there for the team and help in everything I can.”

On improving his goalscoring numbers

“I try to make every goal possible, it’s what they ask me, in addition to working and sacrificing for the team”, the 25-year-old continued.

“I work every day to improve my finishing, and every day I feel better. I will try to help with goals. This year, I already have three goals, and I am happy with that.

“I have always been clear that I want to stay here and that I have a lot to give to this club, and I still have things to give and many dreams to fulfil this shirt and help the club to return to where it has to be.”

Sevilla return to action on Monday night when they face Espanyol, hoping for a victory to rise higher in the standings.
