Super Eagles duo Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu were on target for Trabzonspor as they sealed a comfortable 3-1 win over Fatih Karagumruk in Friday’s Turkish Super League clash.
Onuachu scored one and assisted another, bagging his 18th league goal of the campaign and continuing his impressive form.
Nwaiwu bagged a second half brace after the visitors had equalized in the first half, sealing a dominant win for his side.
Trabzonspor recorded their 15th league win of the campaign and moved to just two points behind second-placed Fenerbahce and four behind leaders Galatasaray, although the top two are set for action later in the weekend.
Onuachu continues scoring form, Nwaiwu bags stunning double
Trabzonspor went into the clash on the back of two consecutive league wins and were hoping to close the gap on the top two with a win.
Meanwhile, Fatih Karagumruk were winless in their last two and remained at the bottom of the standings with only 13 points.
Trabzonspor went ahead in the 20th minute as a stunning cross from Ozan Tufan was met by a brilliant header from Onuachu.
However, the visitors were back on level terms eight minutes later as Daniele Verde took advantage of a defensive mixup to fire past Andre Onana.
Both sides went into the break with a 1-1 scoreline with much to play for in the second half.
The hosts went ahead two minutes after the restart as Nwaiwu got on the end of a flick by Tufan to head home his first goal for the club.
The Nigerian defender scored his second three minutes later, this time getting on the end of a flick by compatriot Onuachu to give his side a two-goal advantage in the clash.
The match ended 3-1 in favour of the home side, who sealed another win as they edge closer to the top two.
What next?
Trabzonspor will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Cup, before facing Kayserispor in the league on March 9.
